Edgeworks Technologies founders Alex Bakunas, Jason Habbley and Andrew Sheppard were invited to be judges at this year�s Science Fair at Lane Tech College Preparatory School. This event is the largest Science Fair in Chicago and Lane Tech has the largest science program in the city.

Edgeworks Technology designed and built a touch screen education application for the Lincoln Park Zoo bridging the gap between education and entertainment. The Application helps the zoo teach visitors about the important research work being done at the Lester E. Fisher Center by allowing visitors to use a touch screen application on an ipod touch to record and view data about the Gorillas and Chimpanzees at the Zoo using the same methods and techniques the zoo's real researchers do every day. The application also offers instant feedback of the visitors data, comparing it to the zoo's long term reserch as well as the data collected by other participants helping the zoo teach them about the scientific methods used in there reaserch as well.

One of Chicago’s oldest burr oak trees, dating back to 1830 at the historic Lincoln Park Zoo stands as a testament to the vital need of green technology in the non-profit sector. According to paper manufacturer Boise Cascade, a single cord of wood from a tree produces nearly 90,000 sheets of paper. Chicago-based, Edgeworks Technology, has developed a paperless backend Web based application for the Lincoln Park Zoo tailored for the board of directors and fundraising boards to reduce paper usage, improve time efficiency, information management, finances and seamless data flow. Utilizing the iPod Touch to demonstrate how learning can be both educational and entertaining. This technology allows users the rare opportunity to become a primate researcher for the afternoon at the Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes. This education workshop titled, Exploring Ape Behavior, allows the public to emulate data collection while allowing instant feedback and understanding of the observational data collected to aid in the educational purposes of the program.
